THE THURLOW AT HORSEHEATH – 16th FEBRUARY 2019 – PREVIEW

Jack Andrews could be the jockey to follow at this Saturday’s Thurlow meeting at Horseheath. Already on 7 winners for the season he could well add to that tally this weekend.  Jack is due to team up with trainer Stuart Morris in both the opening Conditions race in which he rides Bingo Star and in the Mens Open with Neumond who has good course form.  Andrews and Morris have made a formidable pair in the last couple of seasons and have done particularly well at Horseheath.

Andrews also has good chances in both the restricted and the maiden. He will take over from his sister Gina, who is out of action having broken her collar bone in a fall last weekend, in the restricted when he takes the ride on the very promising Classico Dais who won his maiden back in December at Chaddesley Corbett, whilst the John Ibbott trained Racing Eagle, who was second in the maiden at Ampton last time out will attempt to go one better in the closing 7yo&up maiden.

As always at Horseheath this meeting has a hugely competitive and high class entry and the two Open races look particularly strong. The Ladies race includes entries from not only multiple winners Top Smart, Oh Toodles and For’n’Against but also the hugely exciting Tom Ellis trained Haymount who was an impressive winner of the Ladies Open at Sheriff Hutton earlier this month.

The Mens Open could see a rematch between Zeroshadesofgrey and Vivaldi Collonges who were closely matched when they met at Cottenham back in December. Zeroshadesofgrey came out on top that day but they could both face stiff opposition from prolific winner Thetalkinghorse. Trained by Gerald Bailey and partnered by Tom McClorey, Thetalkinghorse has winning course form and if they all turn up it could be a really exciting race.

The first race of a seven race card is kicks off at 12 noon and is preceded by pony racing and a parade of hounds. Horseheath has superb spectator viewing, trade stands and public bar. The course is 4m W of Haverhill on A1307 (Exits 9 or 10, M11). CB21 4QF.
