WAVENEY HARRIERS, HIGHAM, SUNDAY JANUARY 30

The final fence was all that stood between It'sallinthestars and Cosmic Sky - two horses with similarly astrological names - and victory in Maiden races at a well-attended Waveney Harriers Point-To-Point at Higham on Sunday.
But while the sporting gods smiled on It'allinthestars, who was able to survive a monumental blunder to collect the spoils, the connections of Cosmic Sky were left with the bitter taste of defeat as triumph was snatched from their grasp at the very last moment.
It'sallinthestars, trained and ridden by Nigel Bloom, from Wymondham, for local owners, Julia Howlett and Sandra Fryer, got the last obstacle all wrong but Bloom somehow maintained his balance and the six-year-old was able to stride on up the run-in to beat Ballykilthy by four lengths.
Another Wymondham jockey, Rupert Stearn, was not so fortunate aboard Cosmic Sky. He was catapulted from the plate when his mount, who is trained near Thetford by Robert Abrey, undid the good work of accurate leaps at the 18 previous fences by virtually failing to take off on the 19th occasion.
This left Joves Shadow, trained near Luton by Simon Andrews and ridden by Andrew Corbett, as the luckiest of winners. It was a real family success as Joves Shadow is owned and was bred by Corbett's grandmother, Felicity Macfarlane.
Lord Euro, who is owned by Jean Merriam, from Eye, and ridden by her son, Alex, lifted the Hiscox-sponsored Intermediate Race at odds of 3-1. Making all the running, he held off the late thrust of Charango Star by a length and a half.Lord Euro completed a double for East Sussex trainer Di Grissell, who had been on the mark earlier when Satchmo scored a comprehensive victory in the Men's Open under his Irish owner, Gavin Wragg.
Madmidge, who was tackling Open company for the first time, did well to get within ten lengths of the classy Satchmo, particularly as he had lost ground early on the final circuit when the hot favourite, Gallant Glen, took a heavy fall right in front of him.
David Kemp, Madmidge's trainer-rider, did not leave the course empty handed, however, as the Kiliverstone-based pilot guided Deckie to a comfortable success in the previous Confined Race. An Irish import purchased at the Doncaster Sales, Deckie is a first venture into racehorse ownership for Fleur Hawes, from Bressingham, near Diss.
No Penalty looks a horse to follow judged by the ease of his victory under Andrew Braithwaite in the Restricted Race. This represented a superb training performance by Stephen and Jane March, as the home-bred No Penalty is the only pointer at their farm at Little Horkesley, near Colchester, yet was produced fit and well after a near 11-month absence from the course.
Annie Bowles, from Rushall, near Harleston, followed up her maiden win on her father's No Nay Never at Ampton two weeks earlier by landing the two-runner Members' Race on the same horse while Oxfordshire raider The Granby reacted well to the application of sheepskin cheekpieces to lift the Ladies' Open under trainer Heather Irving.
